The short version: ClipGuard stores your clipboard history encrypted on your own Mac. We never receive, see, or store the things you copy. The app only talks to our servers to validate your licence and check for updates.
This Privacy Policy explains how the ClipGuard application ("ClipGuard", "the app") and the clipguard.net website ("the Site") handle information. ClipGuard is operated by the publisher of clipguard.net ("we", "us"). By using the app or the Site, you agree to this policy.
ClipGuard is a local-first application. Your clipboard history, snippets, settings, and search index are stored only on your Mac, in an encrypted database. Clipboard contents and snippets are encrypted with AES-256-GCM, and the encryption key is held in your Mac's Secure Enclave / Keychain. This data is never transmitted to us or to any third party.
You stay in control of this data: you can clear recent items, wipe everything with the panic action, exclude specific apps from capture, and have sensitive items expire automatically. Deleting the app and its data removes this information from your Mac.
To activate and validate a paid licence, the app communicates with our licensing server. During activation, re-validation, and deactivation, the app sends:
We use this strictly to confirm your licence is valid, enforce the number of permitted activations, and provide support. It is never used to identify the contents of your clipboard, which we never receive.
When you check for updates (manually or on a schedule), the app contacts our server with your app version and licence key to determine whether a newer version is available and whether your update window is active. No clipboard data is involved.
The clipguard.net website may use minimal, privacy-respecting analytics to understand aggregate traffic, and processes the information necessary to complete a purchase (handled by our payment processor at checkout). Payment card details are handled by the processor and are not stored by us. The Site does not run advertising trackers.
We do not sell your information. We share data only with service providers that make the product work — for example, our hosting and payment providers — and only to the extent needed to operate the licence system and process purchases. We may disclose information if required by law.
Clipboard data lives on your device under your control and is removed when you delete it or uninstall the app. Licensing records (licence key, activation fingerprints, purchase records) are retained for as long as your licence is active and as required for accounting and legal purposes.
Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, or delete the limited personal information we hold (such as licensing and purchase records), and to object to certain processing. To exercise these rights, contact us using the details below.
ClipGuard is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age in your jurisdiction), and we do not knowingly collect their information.
We may update this policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last updated" date above. Material changes will be highlighted on this page.
